CO-DIRECTORS OF TYABB CAMPUS
Cardjin, Kolbe, Romero and Teresa students from all three campuses went into Melbourne CBD in October to explore the inner realities of life inside capital cities. The students participated in a range of activities such as The Ghost Tour, The Amazing Race, The Big Issue, The Yarra Walk, they explored the Shrine and got to choose their own night activity and dinner. My group decided we wanted to go bowling for our night activity and we went to Strike Bowling. This was a night to remember as each of us tried to beat each other and it got a bit competitive. Afterwards, we got to munch on some delicious burgers from Betty’s Burgers. The camp taught us many things, rather than being free and not making this a learning experience, the teachers incorporated teachings from many different lifestyles. Whether it was from before the British invaded, during the World Wars, or how it’s like nowadays where people are living difficult moments on the streets. The camp has given us a wider explanation of what it was or is like living in the city. On behalf of the Green House students, we would like to thank all the teachers for their organisation and for making this city experience the best it could have been, and for taking the time to supervise us. This camp wouldn’t have worked if it was not for the teachers.

Gina Thompson, our multi-talented Library Resource Centre Specialist and Equestrian Co-ordinator, has been very busy in her spare time this year, travelling to competitions all over the state and the country to indulge her passion for equestrian endurance races. Gina and her horse, Henley Farm Islah, performed brilliantly throughout 2023 achieving four first places, placing second in the Victorian State Champs, ninth in the National Championships, plus an outstanding win at Moyston, for which she now holds the record for the 100km race. Islah also collected four Best Conditioned Horse awards at four of these events.
For those who are unfamiliar with endurance riding, an endurance race is any ride 80km and above, up to 160km. "We are a dedicated bunch of horse people, who love our horses and getting out on horseback for hours on end," Gina explains. "Islah is a powerful and genetically gifted horse with a strong heart and who loves her job. Her amazing efforts this year have secured her Top Points Horse for Victoria 2023".
Well done Gina!
At a recent Mornington Peninsula Shire Council meeting, held 21 November 2023, outgoing Mayor Councillor Steve Holland presented the new Mayor, Councillor Simon Brooks, with a lino print that Year 7 McCormack student Bella Kosmidi sold at the Crib Point Art Show this year. Cr Holland made special mention of the artist and Padua College at the 54-minute mark in the meeting recording, which you can view here:
