More than 60 years ago, Father James 'Jim' Wall, a priest of the Melbourne Diocese, initiated the Catholic Development Fund (CDF) with a modest contribution from a single parishioner. This pivotal moment marked the inception of a fund that has since played a crucial role in supporting Catholic organisations nationwide and part of this commitment lies in the education of children.
The Bursary, bearing the name of Father James Wall in honor of his founding role, stands as a testament to this enduring legacy of support. It champions exceptional students who, through leadership, are making a positive impact within their respective communities.
The Bursary is awarded annual and specifically designed for Year 10 Catholic secondary school students who exhibit leadership potential across diverse areas, including academics, arts, sports, community service, and social justice initiatives.
Generously sponsored by the Catholic Development Fund (CDF) in collaboration with the Catholic Education Offices of Melbourne, Sale, and Bunbury, each selected student receives a $5,000 Bursary. This financial support is aimed at assisting recipients with school fees and associated expenses during their Year 11 and 12 studies in a Catholic secondary school.
Annually, Padua College selects a standout Year 10 student for the Bursary nomination. The nominee is characterised by a significant level of leadership within both the school and community, recognised for being inclusive, cooperative, and dedicated to making a positive impact through self-directed initiatives.
The 2023 recipient, Jake Symes, was acknowledged and presented with the awards at the College OPening Assembly on Tuesday 13 February. We congratulate Jake on this achievement.
