Principal Kelly McGurn
As a College community we have been incredibly saddened by the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Ms Sinead Ryan, on Friday 4 October. Sinead was diagnosed with brain cancer last year and fiercely fought to beat this terrible disease, as well as doing all she could to raise money for further research into finding a cure and support for brain cancer patients at the Peace of Mind Foundation.
Sinead and her family have had a long association with Padua College, her parents Bart and Sharon have been long-term employees of the College, and Sinead and her brother Christian are both former students, with Sinead taking on the role of College Vice Captain in Year 12. Her life was celebrated in the Mornington Campus gymnasium on Saturday 19 October with family and friends coming together to remember a truly unique woman who was full of joy and hope; she was a dedicated and talented teacher and we are blessed to have known her.
We continue to keep Sinead’s husband Brendan, son Koa, parents Sharon and Bart, brother Christian, extended family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto Sinead O Lord, may perpetual light shine upon her.
Last week we celebrated our graduating Class of 2024, commencing with students from all three campuses coming together at the Mornington Campus for our College Assembly. During this assembly we acknowledged and congratulated students who received Best in Subject, as well as a number of other awards. The assembly also included a number of musical acts and the recitation of the Year 12 pledge.
The following day, Year 12 students enjoyed their Celebration Day during the morning and later that evening returned to school for the Year 12 Graduation Mass and Ceremony. I thank Fr Geoff McIlroy, Fr An Le and Deacon Graeme Pender for celebrating this important Mass for our community. The written VCE Exams have commenced this week and I invite all members of our College community to keep our Year 12 students undertaking these examinations in your prayers. I am sure you will join me in expressing my thanks and appreciation to all our teachers at Padua College who have worked with our Year 12 students over their educational journey to prepare them for their exams.
Loving God,
We bring before you our students as they undertake their exams. Fill them with your peace and help them remain calm and focused during these important days.
Grant them clarity of mind and strength of heart, that they may recall with confidence the knowledge and skills they have gained. May they trust in their own abilities, knowing that they are capable and prepared.
We pray that they approach each paper with a clear mind and an open heart, embracing this opportunity to shine and be the best they can be. Surround them with your love and support, and may they feel the encouragement of their families, friends, and teachers.
As they give their best, help them remember that their worth lies not just in results but in the wonderful people they are becoming. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
This week all Year 9 students are involved in Aspire9 Focus Week experiences with students participating in Outdoor Education Camps and Overnight City experiences. I thank all staff for their involvement and participation in the Aspire9 program to ensure our Year 9 students have these opportunities. My particular thanks to the Director of Aspire9, Mr Mark De Fazio, along with the Aspire9 Campus Coordinators: Mrs Charlene Smith, Mrs Andrea Cummins and Mrs Chelsea Holmes, along with Ms Bec Seal for their preparation and organisation of this week.
Families will be aware that next Tuesday 5 November is a public holiday. For students and most staff, Monday 4 November will also be a day of no scheduled classes. There will be VCE exams running on that day so a number of staff will be onsite at the Mornington Campus to support those students undertaking these exams.
The Year 10 & Year 11 Exam period will commence on Monday 11 November and will conclude on Thursday 21 November. These exams are important assessments as well as great preparation for our senior students as they start to prepare for Year 12 and I wish all our Year 10 & 11 students well.
Friday 22 November will be an Assessment and Reporting Day for teaching staff. The following week, on Monday 25 November, we commence our Headstart Program for all students who will have a full two week cycle of their 2025 classes prior to the final day for students for 2024 on Friday 6 December.
On Friday 13 September we celebrated the 10 year Anniversary of our Tyabb Campus starting with tree planning in the morning, followed by Mass, celebrated by the now retired Fr Michael Miles who was parish priest at Westernport at the time of the establishment of the Campus. A number of guests who were involved in the development of Tyabb were also in attendance and, following Mass, guests shared in refreshments while students were provided a sausage sizzle lunch and participated in various activities throughout the afternoon.
This was a wonderful way to celebrate this significant milestone in the history of our College.
I extend my congratulations to Mr Matthew Price (M) and his wife Sarah on the recent arrival of baby Harvey.
I extend my best wishes to staff who will be leaving the College in the coming weeks:
Mrs Kylie Baker (R) – Finance Administration
Mrs Tanya Fox (M) - Personal Assistant to the Directors of Business and Finance
Peace and blessings.
