Dear families,

Where is the time going? It is hard to believe that we are in term four already.

CO-DIRECTOR, ROSEBUD CAMPUS

Our Year 9 students will be shortly heading off on the final Aspire9 Camp. We wish them and all staff attending a wonderful time. We also thank the many staff members, both teaching and ESE staff who will be leaving their families and friends in which to support our students on their experience.

Please enjoy the following articles written by our Year 9 editors, Edith, LJ, Kaitlyn, and Ava, and Year 7 student, Poppy.

Drama Club

Throughout the year, the Year 8 Drama Club has been putting in a lot of effort and dedication to perfect their play, which they will be performing for the Year 7 students in a few weeks. It's amazing to see just how much improvement they have made since the beginning of the year. They have come a long way in developing their acting skills, and their performances have become more polished and refined with each passing week. Their hard work and commitment have paid off, and it's fantastic to see the way they have stepped up to the challenge of creating and performing their own play. It's clear that they have put a lot of time and effort into their rehearsals, as their performance is incredibly well put together. Myself and the other leaders are blown away by their performance, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they go from here, especially next year when they themselves will be running the club.

Band

The Rosebud Year 9 Rock Band has performed many songs over the year and has been a great opportunity for the group to grow and learn to perform. Being a part of the 2022 Spring Showcase and soon to perform in the 2023 showcase, which is a demonstration of the whole of Padua Collage’s Performing Arts Department. The band has played at both lunchtimes and assemblies and has really taken the opportunities given to them to excel as bandmates and young musicians. The band gives many thanks to the performing arts department and music teachers at the school and campus.

Senior School Transition Day

Orientation on the 20th of October was for all of the Year 9 students planning to make the move up to the Mornington Senior Campus and helped many people feel more at ease with the transition. It was a time to meet homerooms and Houses as everyone bussed to the Mornington Campus for the day. It was an insightful day for the Year 9 cohort as they got a taste test for the next three years ahead for them.

Lambs

In Animal Studies this semester, the Year 9 students were introduced to baby lambs. Fitfully named Casper and Jasper, they are twin boys that the school has adopted. The young lambs were cute and tiny to begin with, still having tails before losing them more recently. The lambs are full of energy and always hungry, being hand-fed milk bottles by the Year 9 Animal Studies class. As well as the chickens, the lambs have been a good example for the Year 9s to learn about the growth of animals. Both Casper and Jasper are adored by the Rosebud campus and teachers. The twin lambs have been amazing additions to the agriculture centre at school.

Book in a Day Competition

Thursday 12 October was a very important day for the Rosebud Padua Book in a Day team. Presentation Day was hosted by Cornish College with morning tea, trivia, book examining and most importantly, the announcement of the winner. Eleven out of twelve competing schools attended, as well as special guest, Nicky Johnston. Congratulations to the winning team, Nazareth College, for their book ‘The dino, the deuce and the daring housewife’. Padua Rosebud received a special mention for structure and grammar. Overall, we all enjoyed the day and the enormous cookies, donuts and juice boxes, gulped down by the 250ml, for morning tea. It was a successful end to our Book in a Day Competition, and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year.

SIS Sport

We've had an incredible experience with SIS sport this term and furthermore, the year.

Our Junior Boys Football team won the Pennant in term three and we congratulate all the boys and coaches Brendan Smith and Jen de Longville.

The SIS Athletics Carnival was held at Casey Stadium in term three with Padua College winning 7 of the 12 age group pennants and the Junior and Intermediate Shields, the Boys and Girls Aggregate Shields therefore securing the overall Championship shield. Standouts on the day included: Ryan Ajai, Ruby Geurts, Lucy Quinn, Erin Limpins, and Tahli Browne.

Our teams have started strong this term with a few wins across the different sports. We have Intermediate Boys and Girls’ Basketball only played one game so far for each and it was a win for the girls and a close game for the boys, but unfortunately not bringing home the win. Good luck to them for the rest of the competition.

Junior teams out this term include:

  • Junior Boys Indoor Cricket
  • 2 Junior Boys Basketball teams
  • 2 Junior Girls Volleyball teams
  • Junior Girls Basketball

A few wins have already been secured with hopefully more to come. Enjoy the rest of the season and well done to every student and teacher involved.

The Mick McLoughlin Art Award was awarded to Airlee Sheehan and last but certainly not least was the Mick McLoughlin Technology Award which was awarded to Irene Winderlich.

Well done to all of these excellent students for their hard work and dedication over the years. Amazing work!

The day prior to the Year 12 formal Graduation Mass and Valedictory was the Year 12 Celebration Day where our Year 12s got creative and dressed up as Superheroes, TikTok celebrities, politicians and childhood idols. This was such a fun and creative way for their last day of the year and to finish off their schooling at Padua College. Later in the day House assemblies and best-dressed awards were held. The students did an amazing job at dressing up and the ideas were also so creative and unique.

Well done and good luck to our Class of 2023.
