Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we come to the end of another term, it is timely to reflect on the many community events that we have enjoyed…

A Day of Celebration

On Friday 13 September, the Tyabb Campus will be celebrating our 10-Year Anniversary with a day full of events that truly capture the spirit of our campus community. The celebrations will begin with House Trivia, where students and staff come together for a lively and competitive quiz that will showcase our collective knowledge and school spirit, and a Tree Planting Ceremony, a significant part of Stage 2 of our Koala Habitat Project.

The day continues with a whole-community mass, bringing together students, families, current and foundation staff members, along with other significant members of our community in a shared moment of reflection and gratitude.

A BBQ lunch and an ice cream truck added a delicious touch to the festivities, while the afternoon offered a range of activities for all staff and students to enjoy.

Fathers’ Day

On the last Friday of August, Padua decided to celebrate a very special day for many people, Father’s Day! We hosted a breakfast in the library where fathers and children from Padua were invited to come along and enjoy an egg and bacon roll. We all had such a nice time celebrating such an amazing day for these awesome people in our lives. A big shout out to all the Fathers or other caregivers in our school, you are role models to us and will forever be in our hearts. Thank you!

August Art Attack

Padua College was once again invited to submit 10 student artworks to be exhibited at the annual August Art Attack exhibition in Crib Point. This year Mr. Tyrrell and Mrs. Colcott made the decision to enter artwork by members of the art club to reward them for their commitment to engaging with art outside the classroom and improving their artmaking skils. The students entered work in a variety of mediums including sculpture, acrylic and watercolour paintings, lino and drypoint etching prints, and some drawings. The opening night was on Friday 23rd of August and it was a fully sold out night! It was a really fun event with food and music, and it was amazing looking at all the artworks from our students and local artists. Congratulations to all who entered their artworks, they were all beautiful! Special mention needs to go to the students that won awards including Callum Riddel (best sculpture in the U18 category), Abbie Karnatz (Honorable mention, secondary school), Kalani Love (special mention, secondary school, and also the “People’s Choice” award, secondary school). Congratulations to every student that entered and thank you to Mr. Tyrrell and Mrs. Colcott for helping us enter our art.

SIS Book in a Day

Book in a day consists of three days. The workshop, write-up, and presentation day. The workshop day is when we all go and meet various authors or illustrators depending on our role. We had a team of eight students, two of who were illustrators and six, who were writers. On the write-up day we were given the prompt as we arrived. A mash-up of topics that a competing school gets to pick out for you. We then had to transform that into a cohesive short story. We had eight hours, but it was still very difficult to finish on time. We had to race to finish and by the end, we were all exhausted but happy with our results. Producing a story called the Blue Cheese Disease. A play on one of our assigned words (Blue Cheese). We then sent it to get judged, leading up to the last day. We have not yet had this day but we look forward to it. Usually, we talk to other schools and play games before the great reveal. It's just a really fun experience no matter what you do.

Parish Athletics

On Thursday 8 August, a group of Year 7s volunteered for our partner school’s Athletics Day. We helped out with the activities from track to field and lent a hand to younger students and their primary schools. It was a day full of leadership, fun, and supportiveness, and overall, it was an amazing day helping out.

Learning and Teaching News

It has been a busy and productive term, with many notable achievements across our campus. Reflecting on our learning and pedagogical practices, it's clear that our focus on providing a supportive and engaging environment has been key to our success. The process of selecting subjects for the coming year, whether it was our Year 7s choosing their Core Capabilities subjects, Year 8s making elective choices, or Year 9s planning their transition to the Senior Campus, was a significant milestone. This undertaking required careful planning and support from staff and families and highlighted the importance of guiding students through their educational journey with care and foresight.

Additionally, the participation of over 60 students in The Australian Mathematics Competition showcased our commitment to fostering academic excellence and providing opportunities for students to challenge themselves beyond the classroom. The co-ordination of this event by Mrs Kelly Scheen was terrific, and the enthusiasm of the students who took part is a testament to their dedication to learning.

The Academic Skills Testing conducted this term for our future Year 7 students and current Year 8 students provides us with invaluable data that will inform our curriculum development. Understanding our students’ strengths and areas for growth allows us to tailor our educational programs, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

As we look ahead, Term Four brings with it the conclusion of our academic year, but it also will see us commence 2025 with two weeks of Headstart at the end of term. We are looking forward to another busy and rewarding term ahead.

R U OK? Week

This week we celebrated R U OK Week, starting it off with a form in period one on Monday followed by a Lunar coat design competition we have yet to hear the results of at recess. Each day this week there has been an activity at recess and lunch times, some of these have been a scribble contest, cookie decorating, karaoke, just dance, bracelet making, mindful colouring, mindful meditation, handball competition, AFL super kick comp and how many times can you hit the goal post comp. Throughout the week teachers have been handing out stickers to those who display the attributes of our North star and when you have enough stickers you could redeem them at the end of the week for stickers, food, or a raffle ticket. The week finishes off with a 10-year celebration day for Tyabb on Friday with tree planting, free food, formal mass and other cool activities.

SIS Weekly Sport

Over the past month the Year 8 Tyabb Padua Girl’s Football Team have been training hard and playing games around our local area. So far we have played Balcombe Grammar, St Francis Xavier - Berwick, John Paul College and St Francis Xavier - Officer. The team had a great time playing together and even though we only won one game we all enjoyed the experience. Playing during winter meant that the weather was not always on our side, having strong winds and rain to compete with for the majority of our games. After playing SIS, many of our girls have grown more confident on the field, and some have even chosen to sign up to play for different clubs outside of school. I am beyond proud of how our team has played and grown considering some didn’t even know how to play during our first game.
