Herald Sun Shield

On 1 September, our Intermediate Girls footy team headed out to Ikon Park to play in the Grand Final against Our Lady Of Sion College for the Herald Sun Shield.

From the last round-robin tournament, we played off against them and sadly lost by a goal but this game we had another chance to beat them. When we arrived at Ikon Park, we checked out the ground and it was so cool just to be here. All the girls had never played on such a good oval so we thought it was amazing. Running out on the ground, it was great to know that there were students behind our team who had come as supporters for the day to help cheer us on.

As the game began, our team could feel the nerves and pressure out on the field but that didn’t stop us. We kicked one goal in the first quarter to one point. Our supporters were giving plenty of encouragement each quarter. Our Lady Of Sion College had a really good second quarter, kicking two goals and a point. Our coach, Phoebe was really great, giving us feedback and heaps of support and pumping us up for the second half.

As we started the third quarter all of our girls really stepped up and got better. We kicked two goals and this made Our Lady Of Sion College nervous going into the fourth quarter. We had the momentum at the end of the third quarter. Everyone was so proud of how we were playing. We still had one quarter left though. We couldn't give up with a two-goal lead and one quarter to give it our all. Our Lady of Sion College gave it their all but they couldn't get past us, the final siren went and we were so happy that we had won. Everyone was so proud. They did a presentation at the end of the match to hand our medals to our team and I ended up winning Best on Ground for the day. However, it wouldn’t have been possible without all my teammates' efforts. This was such a great experience for all the girls and an excellent achievement for Padua College.

August Art Attack

Last weekend, 10 Tyabb students in Years 7-9 VAD and in Art Club, were selected to have their work displayed at this year’s August Art Attack, held by the Crib Point Community House. The Exhibition opened on Friday, 25 August, and closed on 27 August. This was an amazing opportunity to represent the College through our passion for drawing, painting, and creating. This year, I won the Secondary School People’s Choice prize for my piece “Taylor Alison Swift: The Eras.”

Notable achievements from our students included:

  • Callum Riddell was awarded the runner-up in the Secondary School category which comes with a $50 cash prize. His artwork was also purchased by one of the judges on the opening night.
  • Molly Green and Harriet Rogers were each awarded special mentions by the judges which came with a set of coloured pencils and a sketchpad. Molly also sold her painting.
  • Bella Kosmidi’s lino print was purchased on opening night by the Mayor of the Mornington Peninsula, and he is planning to hang the work in the council office in Rosebud.
  • Miki McEvoy sold her lino print.
  • Abbie Green won the People’s Choice Award for the Secondary School Category.

Padua College Cook-Up

On 22 August, members from the three Westernport Parish primary schools gathered at our Tyabb Campus for a community cook-up. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers from St Joseph’s, St Mary’s, and St Brendan’s Primary Schools for their time in preparing over 100 meals for St Vinnies.

Proactive Policing Unit Visit

On Thursday 24 August, members form the Somerville Proactive Policing unit presented to our Tyabb students on current legalities and issues regarding online behaviour and the appropriate use of mobile phones. The sessions were informative and well received by our students and we look forward to being able to work closely with the unit on other contemporary issues going forward.

Book Week

Our Librarians made an amazing 3D display to represent this year's Book Week theme of 'Learn, Grow, Inspire'. Our librarians show great dedication every year to make amazing, creative displays in our library that continue to inspire a love of reading.

Science Week Escape Room

For Science Week in Year 7 we attempted an Escape Room in which we had to complete a series of challenges and experiments. There were eight challenges which we had to complete in 40 minutes. For each challenge, we received a code and when we received all eight codes then we would present them to our teacher. The first pair to get all of the codes correct won a prize. If you got the clues wrong, you had to go back to that activity and redo the challenge to get the correct answer.

Tyabb Tigers: 3rd place & Bronze Medalist

Senior Tsunamis – 3rd place & Bronze Medal

Well done girls!

SRC Report

At Tyabb Campus we have been discussing the Year 9 legacy wall which will be House coloured handprints on the down ball wall. The design is a tree that Mr Tyrrell has drawn and the colourful handprints will be leaves on that tree.

We have recently had the Year 6’s (2024 Year 7’s) have their Allwell testing whilst the parents were invited to stay for some morning tea. The Year 7 Leaders are very proud of the Year 6 students as we know that it wasn't at all easy.

OurTyabb Basketball Association has been running during lunchtimes in term three. It has been a great competition for everyone to get involved in and have a great time.

Creative Upcycling Call for Materials

Our Technology Department is seeking broken skateboard decks and surfboard resin run off that can be repurposed by our Year 9 Jewellery students to create a series of ‘upcycled’ jewellery.

Skateboard decks made from coloured and stacked wood, can be turned into stylish and vibrant pieces of jewellery (pictured below) when cut and shaped. The Year 9 Jewellery students also upcycle the waste polyester resin caught while laminating a surfboard, which is usually sent to landfills. The students use these leftovers to cut out shapes and style them into jewellery with bright swirls of colours.

If any families in the community make custom surfboards or know of people who do, we would be grateful if you could email Vicky in our Technology Department, vronchi@padua.vic.edu.au

Donations of broken skateboards would be gratefully accepted by our Wood Technology teachers.
