LISA MODD
CO-DIRECTOR, ROSEBUD CAMPUS
Driving to school last week I noticed the temperature on my car’s dashboard was a balmy minus 2°C. I think this is a record!
Thankfully on mornings like this, our students have the option of a warm library, or a hot chocolate from the canteen, however, most tend to bunch up and huddle together around the locker bays or shoot a few hoops on the basketball court. This time of chatting and connecting with each other is a great way to start the school day.
It is a wonderful privilege visiting various classes and observing students engaging with their schoolwork, connecting with their teachers, and interacting with their classmates. This engagement fosters a positive learning environment, which in turn supports students’ wellbeing and learning outcomes. A positive student teacher relationship is fundamental for a supportive and effective learning experience. It is these experiences that result in staff and students forming strong bonds built on mutual respect and understanding.
Last weeks’ athletic carnival was a great day of student participation, engagement, getting in and having a go and perhaps most importantly connecting with each other and having fun. Thanks to Ms de Longville for her energy, enthusiasm and organisation prior to the event and on the day.
McAuley Sports Captains Oscar Skehan and Sara Osorio have provided the following report.
On Thursday 1 August, Rosebud and Tyabb Campus held their athletics day at Casey Fields. There were many opportunities for everyone to mix with students form the other campus and meet new people to build friendships. We saw so many people participating in many events from both campuses throughout the day which was amazing. It was great to see everyone getting involved and cheering on their friends. It was awesome!
Congratulations to Tahli Browne and Tom McGough on being Rosebud’s fastest 100m sprinters on the day making it to the final 8 fastest across the whole campus.
We would like to thank the teachers for putting all of this together and making the day fun and enjoyable for everyone. Thanks everyone that put in the effort to participate in the activities. In conclusion from Rosebud campus McAuley… well done! We won! Also, congratulations to Cardijn the winning Tyabb House.
Term 3 commenced with six SIS teams going out weekly to represent Padua Rosebud. Junior Girls Football started off with a win, while Junior Boys Football kick off their season next week. Good luck for the rest of the competition!
The Intermediate Girls have played two games of netball. Unfortunately, no wins yet there is still time!
With both boys and girls playing Intermediate Soccer it has been a great start for the girls winning both their matches and the boys taking home a strong win last week.
Excellent work to all the students involved who are showing great sportsmanship and dedication. Thanks to all the coaches and staff involved too.
Ms Jen de Longville
Sports Coordinator
This term Year 9 girls are competing in SIS soccer, with two wins out of two games so far (7-2 and 7-1). In both games everyone showed a great level of ability and a ‘never stop, give it your all’ attitude. Everyone on the team has great passion and is so excited to compete every week! As a team we take great pride representing Padua and hope to continue on with our winning streak and stay on top of the ladder!
Well done again to Tom McGough who continues to excel in athletics and cross country.
Tom recently competed in the Victorian Duathlon State Championships. He raced in the sprint distance, which was 5km, as well as a 20km bike ride, and a 2.5km run. A great effort by Tom who came across the line in second place for his age group and second in the U20 Para.
We look forward to further reports and wish Tom the best as he has qualified for the national Duathlon championships with Triathlon Australia later this year.
Tom has also just competed in Vic All School State Cross-Country Championships. An amazing effort in achieving first place! This is the second year Tom has won the championship. Good luck Tom for the National Cross Country-Championship which will be taking place in a few weeks.
'Schoolaerobics' is the largest interschool sport aerobics competition for primary and secondary school students throughout Australia. It consists of many sections of competition for both clubs and schools and is run by TFT Sports and Events Management. Padua College, Rosebud Campus, have been proud to be a part of this competition for the past three years.
Our athletes began in Year 7 2022 with no prior experience in this sport. They entered their first competition in the ‘Classic’ section for beginning schools and were proud to make it all the way to State Finals! 2023 saw us progress to the much tougher ‘Open’ section, competing against schools with a long history of success in this sport. Again, our brave athletes made it all the way to State Finals and just missed out on a place at Nationals.
This year, our team have achieved their goal, set in Year 7, of making it all the way to TFT School Aerobics Nationals. The team have worked tirelessly for this goal, with countless hours of training and travel over weekends to regional and state competitions. Our team would like to thank their parents and families for supporting their endeavours, and Head Coach Mrs. Tashara Bampton, assisted by Mrs. Louise Paxino and Mrs. Assunta Galbraith.
This team really have embodied our Padua College motto of ‘Perseverance Conquers All’ and we are so proud to see them represent our school in Adelaide this weekend. We wish our athletes and coaches safe travel, and whatever the outcome on Saturday, they already are winners.
Louise Paxino
Good luck to our Aerobics team who fly to Adelaide for the National Aerobics Competition this weekend.
Further examples of students engaging with each and working closely with their teachers include other activities such as debating and aerobics. For many students this is the first time they have chosen to be involved in the sport or activity. Thankyou to our staff for their involvement and supporting the students to get involved, give everything their best shot and to compete fairly.
Thanks to Ms Cheers for organising the debating team and for providing the following report.
Back in term 2, I put a call out for students interested in debating. We soon had a little club of students from year 7 to 9, meeting in the library at lunch time to learn the basics of debating and testing our speaking skills in front of each other.
Finally, on Friday 26 July, we got our first taste of a debating competition. Two junior teams and one intermediate team gathered at Flinders Christian College for a prepared and an unprepared debate. We received our unprepared prompts when we arrived and began collaborating before we quickly wrote speeches for the debates. Each team won at least one debate on the day, with some lucky students selected as "best speaker".
It was a great experience that tested our teamwork and speaking skills.
Congratulations to Trudy Reiter for having a piece of her art accepted into the Frankston Arts Centre exhibition – The Art of Nature.
This image displays the theme of nature, as it tells a story of how humans showed nothing but disrespect and neglect towards Mother Nature, and the earth we live on. It shows how the protectors of all the nature of this world are hidden from sight, but will one day take this enchanting life we have back. Perhaps we weren't the first.

Thank you to all parents for your ongoing support. We encourage you to continue to stay involved with your child’s journey through Padua by maintaining contact with your child’s homeroom teacher, House Coordinator and teachers. Also please let us know of any significant proud parent moments that we can share with the College community.
As the mornings gradually get warmer and signs of Spring are in the air, we look forward to the remainder of term 3 and all that it will bring.
God Bless,
