DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS
Throughout term three, we continue to challenge our students to do their best, help others achieve and utilise their God-given talents, whilst providing a place a place where students strive to be valuable members of their communities. As you will see from the samples below, so many of our students have welcomed this challenge. They have produced some outstanding work, and in doing so, provided our community with countless moments of inspiration.
On 11 July, the Tyabb Campus joined together for the mid-year awards assembly. Together we celebrated the achievements of those students who received academic, sports, commendations, and other special awards. We began the assembly with a prayer before hearing from our College Principal Ms McGurn. The top 10% of nominated students received a certificate and badge for excellence and endeavour awards during the assembly. Ms Love, our Campus Sports Co-ordinator, presented sports awards for term two. The semester one assembly was held by Doyle House. During the assembly we had Doyle door prize competition, If your number was drawn, you would then choose between a prize in front of you or an unknown prize. A very special thank you to everyone who attended the assembly and especially our parents.

On Monday 31 July, Tyabb and Rosebud had their Interhouse Athletics. We started off with the 1500m race when Tyabb arrived. When Rosebud got here we did the 100m sprints. During the sprints the field events were running high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus. After all the races were run, we had the House clusters relay. After Rosebud left the Tyabb girls ran the House colour relay, Geoghegan coming first, then McCormack and Cardjin coming third. Tyabb then ran the fastest girl and boy races, Jackson Rose-Anstis won for the boys, and Scarlett Marsh for the girls. Lastly, Mrs Love announced the winners of the athletics day as follows:
4th - Doyle
3rd - McCormack
2nd - Cardjin
1st – Geoghegan
Tilly Richards, Year 9 McCormack
Tyabb and Rosebud Campuses held an athletics day on 31 July. With a beautiful day, there was huge excitement for both campuses. There were so many different people this year participating in events and enjoying them. I personally participated in eight. By the end of the day, the scores for the Houses were tallied up and Geoghegan won. Huge congratulations to them! They were followed by Cardijn (a surprise) and in third and fourth place were McCormack and Doyle. Huge congratulations to everyone who participated. I can't wait till Athletics Day 2024.

In SRC this year we've all been pretty busy! We all gather together to brainstorm ideas about how we can make our school better for everyone. We also have been coming up with ideas and events like a Father’s Day breakfast. The Sports Captains have also put in a lot of work to keep students busy at lunchtime. They have organised sporting activities that include basketball, volleyball and netball. Our latest project we've been discussing is assemblies every Day 10; where each House will host an assembly. This is where the Tyabb Campus gathers in the gym for a quick discussion before class. Another proposal we've been addressing in SRC is the legacy wall for all Year 9 students. There was a vote on designs so we will see how that turns out soon.

Today, our two Junior and Intermediate teams went to Flinders College for the SIS Debating Competition and competed in several prepared and unprepared debates. The day was filled with a wide variety of fun and enjoyment. There was a lot of discussion about the unprepared debates, with everyone rebutting and forming strong arguments. Amazing job to all the debaters today! We had four wins and four loses in the eight debates we competed in. On behalf of the debating team from Padua Tyabb we would like to thank Ms Holmes for taking us on this wild journey!
Kylah Macpherson, Year 9 Cardijn
Since last term, Padua Tyabb’s Art Club has held and opened guesses for our semester one showcase, the first of its kind: an exhibition with a mystery theme - Many guesses have come through in the answer box by Students and Staff Members alike. Celebrities, Cartoons, and even Sports showed up in the Guesses box in the admin building. With guesses closing off last Friday, I can finally announce that after checking the submissions box that at least one person has guessed correctly. However, the winner remains to be seen…

On Wednesday 19 July, Padua College presented Mamma Mia! to many of our neighbouring primary schools. The following night our production was brought to you all in the new performing arts centre at Padua Mornington. We are all so thrilled to be a part of this. Our casts, ensemble, band, tech and stage crews have worked tirelessly on this production that we are so proud of.
There are so many things that we love about the production. It feels so incredible to be a part of the amazing team and we enjoy our time in the arts centre. Mamma Mia! Allowed us to create strong bonds with our cast and crew members and even teachers from other campuses. School production is an excellent opportunity for anyone who loves theatre, lighting, acting, singing, playing a musical instrument, helping out or even just making new friends and stepping out of their comfort zone. We are very proud to present Mamma Mia! to you all and we hope that students will consider being a part of future productions, even if that just means being a part of the stage crew!
Of course, none of this could have happened without the time given up by our wonderful teachers. We thank everyone who was involved in the making of our version of Mamma Mia!
Molly Green, year 9 Geoghegan
In Plant and Animal Studies, my class and I are learning about chickens and how to care for them as they grow up! We have been split into even groups and have a chicken to share, I’m in a group with my friends Bonnie and Bri and we have named our chick Joe. For the rest of the term, we get to learn how to clean them and their cage, measure them every class to see their growth, play with them, and obviously make sure they are staying healthy and happy! Below I have put some pictures of some of the chickens including my groups.
Gabby Mehrmann, Year 9 Geoghegan
On 17 July, Year 7 Cardijn attended Tough Mudder at the Mornington Campus. There were many different obstacle courses and tasks we had to complete throughout the period, some involved teamwork while others were individual. We started off by doing fitness activities then got to the messy part which was the mud! Once we were done in the mud we had to do a teamwork task which consisted of a raft and a string, we had to use the string to pull and get all our teammates safely to the other side. At the end, we all got to jump in the dam and wash ourselves off and it was absolutely freezing! Overall, it was a great day and all of us had great fun and worked together as a team amazingly.
Ella Sawyer, Year 7 Cardijn
Our Year 8 girls footy team set off to play an away game against Saint Peters for our first match, the bus was filled with excitement and trepidation and as we pulled up to their school and saw the opposition for the first time, we felt like we had a chance at a win. Unfortunately during the match, we lost two great players due to head injuries, Eden and Lucy, this hampered our ability to get on top of the game and we came away down by 5 points.
After the loss the week before we came in strong with ambition as we versed Flinders Christian College at their Tyabb Campus, everyone played super well, especially Remy Currie who received Player of the Match. Although we improved our skills, we came away with a loss, 22-12.
We're all training hard and looking forward to having a win in the weeks to come.
Ruby Lawler, Year 8 Geoghegan
On Thursday 20 July, a Respectful Relationships Day was held at a hall in Mornington. Several students from each Padua Campus attended the day. We arrived at Mornington and all students got to know each other, before completing and watching a number of slideshows and activities about our school campus and community. These activities helped us to understand the positives and what we need to work on at our school to make it a comfortable place for all. Luna the school therapy dog was at the day, and she put a smile on all the students’ and teachers’ faces. Overall, it was a great experience and very beneficial for all who attended.
Bonnie Enever, Year 9 Geoghegan
All families have received their child’s semester 1 report and have been invited to attend the second of our parent-teacher conferences for the year. The purpose of both, is to articulate how each student may better achieve their personal best in the second half of the year. As a staff, we will continue to support all our students to this end, throughout term three. The lunchtime Catch-up Club continues each lunchtime, and Homework Club each Wednesday afternoon. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to consolidate their learning in these supervised spaces.
There also continue to be many extra-curricular activities on offer this term that may enable students to discover and utilise their God-given talents and families are encouraged to speak with their children about the many opportunities available throughout the remainder of term three.
There is great excitement at Tyabb Campus to discover that we have a resident koala, who has kindly agreed to be our campus mascot! He is an active little fellow and is seen dashing along grassy spaces and even the teachers' car park. One morning he made several students late by sitting in front of their lockers listening to the morning music. Last week students suggested names for this furry little fellow and we had a poll to determine his name.
It is with great pleasure that we would like to introduce the Paduan community to Alfredo Macgregory II (Freddie for short). Freddie is very pleased with his name, as he appears to enjoy listening to Queen and is a Freddie Mercury fan.
Be super careful if you are driving into the Tyabb grounds as Freddie might be out and about on his daily adventures!
