EMILIO DI PAOLO
COLLEGE SIS CO-ORDINATOR & M Y7-9 SPORTS CO-ORDINATOR
What a great day of swimming yesterday at the SIS Division One Swimming Championships. Our swimmers were keen to do well after the lengthy training invested in early morning training sessions, the interhouse carnivals, and the inter-campus trials.
Coach Nicole Love from our Tyabb Campus had done the maths, assessed every swimmer’s times, spent countless hours organising the team, and finally come up with what she thought was the winning combination. However, as they say, ‘sport is a funny thing’ and you never know what is going to happen.
The carnival started off brilliantly and our swimmers performed beautifully in the Medley Relays, winning the first four events, and placing second in the remaining two at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Individual performances were strong with many ‘top three’ finishes across all age groups. Our junior swimmers were fantastic and will be valuable contributors over their years at the College. It was also great to see so many swimmers from our smaller Tyabb and Rosebud Campuses. The camaraderie amongst our swimmers was a delight to see and the leadership and sportsmanship displayed by our senior swimmers, especially Ollie Pfister, Will Deutsher, Mackenzie Dornom, Tegan Boyd, Max Harvey, Hannah Lionnet, Justin Pollock and Jade Cheasley was amazing.
The improvement of so many of our students due to their commitment to training was evident in the results with Padua winning seven of the 12 age-group pennants, along with the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Shields, the Boys and Girls Aggregate Shields, and the Championship Shield. Congratulations to our swimmers on this fantastic achievement and special thanks to Padua staff members Nicole Love, Anna Whittaker, Jen De Longville, Peter Van Wees and Shakira Samuel for their dedication, and to the parent community for their great support.

Congratulations to all seven of the College aerobics teams who competed in the Regional Aerobics Competition this past weekend and have made it through to the State Schoolaerobics Championships. Thank you to staff team coaches Sarah Bailey, Kellie Jolley, Cassandra Collier-McLean, Louise Paxino, Rachael McIvor and student coaches Mackenzie Dornom, Paige McIvor, Mia O’Malley and Lucy Seletto. The dedication of the teams and coaches to early morning, lunchtime and school holiday practices certainly paid off and we wish them well in their preparations for the State Championships in June.
Congratulations to Year 11 student Connor Drysdale who represented Victoria in the U17 Men’s team at the Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association Championships in Perth. The team won the grand final in an undefeated campaign to come home as Australian champions. Connor began his netball career playing with Osborne Netball Club and has over the years continued to play for Osborne and the Mornington Peninsula Netball Association (MPNA) Squad. Connor has been an assistant coach for the MPNA Squad, is currently junior coach for an U15 team, and can often be seen out and about umpiring games on Saturdays. We congratulate Connor on his dedication and contribution to the sport, and well deserved success.
