Dear Parents and Guardians,

Lunny Tina v2 2024

Tina Lunny

Easter is a season of renewal and hope, reminding us of the strength found in faith and community. Term 1 has been rich with opportunities for learning, growth, and shared experiences, and below, several of our students share their own reflections of just some of the many activities that have shaped our community. From academic achievements to service initiatives, creative pursuits, and sporting events, these moments highlight the vibrant spirit of our college community. I hope you enjoy reading their accounts and wish you all a joyful and restful Easter.

Easter Raffle

Here at the Tyabb campus, we are holding our amazing annual Easter raffle! Students can support the raffle by purchasing the raffle tickets provided to students at $1 per ticket or by giving donations of Easter eggs to your child’s homeroom teacher. The raffle prizes will be drawn on the last day of the term. All the money raised by the purchase of raffle tickets will go to caritas Australia.

Year 7 Camp

Year 7 camp was so much fun!!

The first thing we did was organise our cabins and see who was in which cabin. You got to make a lot of new friends, and we also got to hang out with our old friends.

There were activities to do at camp. They were so much fun!

The activities were

- The big swing: Where you put a harness on, then jump onto a platform, get hooked up to a rope swing and hold onto a rope while people pull on the same rope to pull you up HIGH, and then you let go and do a really BIG swing.

- Archery - which I was not very good at!!!

- Trampolining

- The leap of faith: this was really cool. We had to put on a harness and climb up a pole (which had steps on it), move onto a platform that’s really HIGH!! Then we got to jump off the platform!! It felt like I was flying! (but you are connected to someone down below so you don’t fall!!)

And loads more fun stuff.

The food there was AMAZING. Schnitzels, pasta and zucchini slices were all very good but I think the pancakes were possibly my most favourite thing. I had mine with maple syrup. YUM!!

Almost every night we played games that were put on by the year 9’s. The games for us to play were

- Duck duck goose: and by the way the boys were really into it!

- A trivia about the camp grounds which was pretty cool.

- we played a game called dead fish where we all had to lie around on the ground and not move a muscle, not even blink!!!! I’m pretty sure this was a game the teachers organised cause it made us all REALLY REALLY quiet!!

Camp was so much fun, (well maybe not the bus trip, OMG SO LOUD!!) I wish I could just go again!

Ash Wednesday

On the 3rd of March, marking the beginning of the 40 days of Lent, the Tyabb Campus gathered in our Gym for an Ash Wednesday liturgy. We all sat together to listen and understand the meaning of Ash Wednesday. We all got crosses drawn on our foreheads made of ash from the grape vines at the Mornington Campus.

Aspire 9 Sustainability Elective

As a part of the Aspire 9 program, my class has been lucky enough to be doing the sustainability elective. On the 12 of march, half of the year nines from Tyabb and half of the year nines from Rosebud all met up at the William Warrain Aboriginal Association in Hastings. Whilst we were there we learnt about the Aboriginal people and the history behind them. We learnt how they sustained their healthy lifestyle throughout the years and we even got to try some unique bush foods. We did a cultural ceremony which involved smoking, cleansing and being marked with paint. Overall the day was very educational and most of us took a lot from it. Meeting up with the Rosebud campus was a day filled with laughter and new connections. There were so many new personalities and friendships that we were lucky enough to be exposed to.

Work Ready

As a part of the aspire 9 program my core class was lucky enough to be involved in the work ready course that goes over three days. On our first day we learnt all about ourselves, taking fun quizzes and learning which jobs would suit us the best. We even had a Liverpool coach come and run a soccer session and talk to us about getting jobs in the sports industry. From then we added to our folios all about the requirements, salary, study courses and all there is to know about our best suited jobs. We were then given the opportunity supported by our teachers and career counsellors to help us write our first ever resumes that we could use to start applying for our very first jobs!

On our second day our Tyabb campus caught the bus to the Mornington campus. We got to add to our folios by doing quizzes about our personality traits. Then we were lucky enough to have the "Hour of Power" guest speaker to us which included games, quick brainstorming discussions and creating a 30-60 second pitch about us and an achievement we are proud of.

I am very much looking forward to our last day in the work ready program which will include a tour of HMAS Cerberus Navy base. I have learnt so much about different career paths that I could potentially take once I finish school.

House Swim Carnival

What a fantastic day we had at the Swimming Carnival! With the sun shining bright at a lovely 26 degrees, the atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement. It was wonderful to see everyone come together to go have some fun and get those house points.

A huge congratulations to the McCormack (Red House), who dominated the day! Their energy and spirit was absolutely incredible. It was also super exciting to be able to see them show off their hard work and determination.

The highlight of the day? The pool was packed with awesome people and enthusiastic supporters cheering on from the sidelines. Not just the students joined in on the fun though, many teachers also joined the action, diving into the pool and showing us their best! Their involvement was incredible, and we thank them very much.

Overall, it was a day filled with laughter, fun, and unforgettable memories. Thank you to everyone who participated, cheered, and contributed to making this year's swimming carnival a massive success!

The Tyabb House Swim Carnival was such a fantastic event! So many people showed up, and the weather couldn’t have been better. It made for an enjoyable day for everyone involved. There was an incredible atmosphere filled with laughter and excitement, and it was a joy to see everyone having so much fun. A big shoutout to McCormack House for taking home the win and really showing off their spirit and teamwork. It was great to see everyone dressed up and joining in. Whether they were diving into the pool or cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines.

Well done, Dane!

Dane Thornton finally completed the very difficult Harry Potter puzzle in our library. He completed it almost entirely by himself over 2 terms. Definitely an example of determination and persistence.

Junior Leadership Training Day

The Junior leadership day was a way for the three junior campuses to connect and develop our leadership skills. Mornington, Rosebud and Tyabb all gathered at The Studio, in Mornington for a day full of opportunities and fun. We did things like Team Building, Get-to-know-you activities and mini games. As the day went along, we met lots of new people from all campuses, and we worked on what each of our roles could do to help, like supporting one another and working towards building a safe and kind community. Some people came down to help us support one another and they were having us play many fun games to get to know everyone's interests! We may have started the day as three separate campuses, but we left as one whole community.

Last Friday, the years 8-9 leaders across all campuses met for a day of learning about and strengthening our leadership skills. To start off, we played ‘Get to know you games’, a perfect way to put names to faces and learn more about other students and their interests. We then learnt about types of leadership and how they can be used in a social setting. After that, we learnt some team building and overall, really fun games. These games also provided inspiration to bring back for our younger year levels in our own campuses and cohorts. We concluded with a reflection, including talking to our group of leaders that we share a title with, for example our Tyabb sustainability leaders, academic, house leaders and so on, about what we have learnt and how that can be implemented into our campus and also our group projects we are currently working on.

Hands on Learning at Tyabb

Last year Callum was asked to do some sort of artwork for a space in the Hands On Learning shed.

He decided to do a painting of a Daniel Riccardo Car. Daniel Riccardo is the ambassador for Hands On Learning.

He did a fantastic job and his artwork has just been hung for all to enjoy.

St Patrick’s mass

On the 21st of March, the Mission Leaders, from every campus, went to St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne for a St Patrick’s Day service. Around 300 different catholic schools from all over Victoria gathered for this mass along with the archbishop, many priests and members of the Victorian State Parliament. At the end of the Mass, the Archbishop unveiled and blessed the first painting of St Patrick in the cathedral.

Mornington Peninsula Sustainability Leadership Summit

On Thursday 13th March, the Tyabb sustainability leaders went to a summit with other sustainability leaders across several schools on the Mornington Peninsula. We spoke about the Tyabb sustainability initiative of our Koala Conservation Project and more upcoming projects. It was quite an enjoyable experience, and we hope to do it again.
