Women in Trades Workshop

This week, we hosted a Women in Trades workshop, organised by a non-profit that supports women pursuing careers in trades.

The students had the opportunity for hands-on learning in plumbing, assembling various plumbing parts, as seen in the photos. They also heard from women working in different trades who shared their experiences, demonstrated how to use the tools, and provided valuable insights. In addition to plumbing, the participants got creative by building and painting planter boxes.

It was a fantastic experience, empowering the students and giving them the chance to explore different trades in a supportive environment.

Work Experience at Kyabram Fauna Park

I recently completed work experience at Kyabram Fauna Park. Some of the things I enjoyed during my time there were feeding the animals and going into the enclosures with them. The park had a variety of Australian wildlife, including kangaroos, koalas, and my favourite: cassowaries. One challenge I found was feeding the carnivorous animals. They ate raw meat and dead rats, and I had to handle the meat with my bare hands, which was quite unpleasant. However, it’s all part of the job! My daily tasks included cleaning enclosures, washing dishes, preparing food, and feeding the animals. It was a lot of work, but very rewarding in the end. I learned so much and met many wonderful people and animals during my time there.
